Shorts for Your Favorite Little Guy!!

073frankies 4thbday1

This is a step by step tutorial on taking an old dress shirt and creating  extreme shorts for your little guys!

It is so hard to find ways to stretch a dollar when you have boys. There are tons of tutorials for little girls including making a dress from a pillowcase! Whenever I find something useful for boys I get so excited.....that might be because I only have boys....but still I get excited to know that here is something I can make and not break the bank.

Even if your significant other doesn't have a shirt that he is willing to let you cut up there are always thrift stores and garage sales to check out. Let's face it any pair of shorts this cute less than twenty bucks is exciting. And we all want our little guys to look stylish. I know when I get to the store and start checking price tags I start doing the math and my pulse goes up. When you have to purchase 5 pairs + each season for more than one little person let's face it the price tag isn't all that reasonable for a family.

This is why I love DIY ideas like this! You get to use your creative side and save money while creating something that your family needs. This tutorial is step by step with pictures and perfectly timed as Spring heats up. See you at garage sales this weekend!

Secret Book to Make for Father's Day June 16th!

http://lifeartcollide.blogspot.com/2012/04/diy-secret-book-of-sinister-potions.html

I thought we might want to get a head start on Father's Day this year. This book is perfect for the geeky at heart dad who loves all things hidden with a slight twist.

This how to shows how this blogger took a paper Mache hollow book from Michaels and created this secret sinister book. The front was created with tissue paper, hot glue, hemp and wire pieces.

Who isn't slightly geeky at heart and wouldn't love the inside of this book. The inside she created using sculpey, cardboard, felt, and leather straps. I think that if there was something that your "Dad" would love more on the inside this would be easy to reimagine. For the artist you could put tubes of paint and paint brushes. The gamer could have a strap for maps and character sheets and a small built in bag for his dice. The video gamer could have a secret place for that favorite controller that he wants to keep out of little sticky hands! The ideas are endless with this tutorial.....

Make your own Stick-Horse!

http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2011/01/diy-stick-horses.html

I have been searching for a way to make a stick horse that isn't uhmmm too hard for a while. I wanted something that would be easy enough I wouldn't look at the instructions and just give up, walk away, and never want to try again. LOL

At craft shows I see the most amazing stick horses but they also come with the most amazing price tags ...... I think my children are worth the price tag but my bank account and my husband like to argue with me.

I have finally found the easiest tutorial and explanation on making these stick wonders. The creator of this tutorial made them for a birthday party! As I tried to wrap my brain around this idea and the sheer amount of work involved I became convinced that she should win a prize for greatest mother ever. And another prize for helping moms everywhere finally make their own stick horse!

My littlest guy turns 5 in a couple weeks and he and his brother will be getting these! Now where to hide them while I work on them?

Candy Jar for Mom

Mike and Ike Lemonade Blends Homemade Mothers Day Gift Idea: Spring Mason Jar Candy Holder
http://savvysavingcouple.net/2013/04/26/homemade-mothers-day-gift-idea-spring-mason-jar-candy-holder/

She doesn't give detailed instructions for making this adorable jar on the website but leaves it to your imagination.

For those of us who need a few more ideas on how to get started here is what I was thinking:

1) You are going to need something to use as a jar. This could be a mason jar like the one the picture, one that is being recycled, a plastic container from the dollar store, or even something from the thrift store. Make sure to wash and dry first. If you use a recycled jar try covering the lid with a piece of fabric.

2) You will need a bright candy you could try lemonade mikes (in the picture), dum dum suckers, candy bracelets, gumballs, whatever you think will look colorful in the jar. You could also fill with bath salts or something else that mom will love.

3) You are in need of silk or pretend flowers that are willing to pop the heads off of. Maybe you have something in the house already or you may want to run to the local craft or dollar store to purchase something. If you do not want to use the flowers you could substitute with something else.

4) You will need felt or a stiff fabric to cut up to make flower shapes or even butterflies for this project. Could substitute a craft paper or construction paper.

5) You will need a piece of ribbon or string.

6) Last but not least you will need glue. I think I would use a hot glue gun or some type of craft glue but not school glue to hold everything together.

Have fun and remember when crafting with little people it doesn't have to be perfect!

DIY Mother's Day Necklace

http://www.pandahall.com/learning-center/article-Homemade-mothers-day-gift-ideas-birthstone-necklace-out-of-wire-361.html

This tutorial to make your own Mother's Day necklace is explained in picture detail for each step. Making this an amazing tutorial. I think I may be making a couple of these this year too!

I found this birthstone chart searching at http://thefamilystore.net/BirthAngels.htm I thought it might help to match up the color of your beads to the birth month. And if you are not in the crafty mood you can purchase an adorable birth angel in the color of every one's birth month for an equally beautiful present for mom at the above website.

A cute Mother's Day DIY

DIY Mother’s Day Gift

How adorable is this! Includes a tutorial, pintables, and seed suggestions. I think this would be cute for the neighbor that maybe doesn't have someone to give her a gift on Mother's Day too.

Mother's Day Projects!

I love Mother's Day! The whole idea of celebrating your mom or yourself seems to me to be something that we need that yearly reminder to do. Being a mom is an amazing journey that teaches and gives back to us with each day. Knowing that your mom is just a phone call away and will stay on the phone even if she can't understand you through your tears is an amazing gift that your mom gives. For those who do not have this type of mom it is a blessing to know that you can be that type of mom when your child reaches for you. For me the celebration can be simple with the kids just climbing in bed to cuddle or a quick call that reminds me someone loves me and remembers that I love violets.
The important thing to remember regardless of the type of gift that you choose for Mother's Day is too make it something important to you that you can share with your Mom. Even if you are making the gift for yourself with your little people let them know that this is you celebrating the fact that you have that child in your life and you couldn't be happier that you received the sticky kiss with the handprint.

This is a very simple bracelet that takes easy to find items to create and whips up quickly. Quick and still amazing enough to grace the arm of your mom (or yourself).

Super cute and easy spa gift to make for your mom. Includes the pattern and tutorial for the eye mask and for the grapefruit coconut scrub.

This is an adorable idea to make with the kids. I think I would write the child's name on each bloom and the date curling around the ribbon. This would be a cute way to remember their little hands

Her is another cute item the kid's can make for mom or grandma. I love the footprint butterfly!

How cute would these be in a vase that the kids hand painted?

This is a cute tutorial to make the fingerprint pendant. I wonder if you could use embossing powder to bring out the fingerprint?

.
This would be cute for mom set up next to her breakfast plate for that yummy breakfast in bed.

This is too cute, mom pulls on the string and the flower blooms!

This has a step by step tutorial with pictures to make the process easier!

How cute would this be for a mom or dad?

There wasn't a tutorial on the site I found this picture but I think if you measured a book to get the correct size of the triangle you would need to cut the two main pieces from felt and sew together. You could use a small piece of scrap fabric with a picture to decorate, do a crazy design with your sewing machine all over the felt, or even let a little person glue buttons to it.

Cute tutorial on using wax paper for a stencil. You could paint anything you wanted on the doormat a one liner, a single word, a symbol such as a pawprint or knitting needles. Whatever mom really likes to make it personalized. I wouldn't put a name on it though. I remember reading on a police officer's blog once that having your name on the house helps people to break in or identity theft something like that.

I would love to have these at my house. In this picture she used paint cans for the bird feeders but I think it would be just as easy to use a tin can that you are recycling.

This link contains a couple tutorials and pictures for easy to make wind chimes.

dsc_8299
A very easy to follow tutorial on how to make your own lamps using hemp and a ball. This would be a nicer surprise for mom than another porcelain bell. And you can just imagine mom telling all of her friends how gifted you are that you made this light just for her.

loomless woven rag rug
This is a cute tutorial on using old sheets to make a cute rag rug.

How to make your own canvas prints. What mom wouldn't swoon over this gift?

http://brittanyanddylan.blogspot.com/2011/11/weekend-project-1-terrariums-for.html

This is a great tutorial for making a terrarium using succulents in  containers without lids. This would be an easy and quick project for kids to help with!
